Mission Support

America On The Move
Texas Steps to Healthier Lifestiles

Texas On the Move (TOM) is a grassroots initiative that provides simple tools to increase physical activity and decrease calorie consumption by providing step counters, informational materials, special events and technical assistance to participants. TOM encourages participants to "step" towards a healthier lifestyle by walking more and eating more healthfully.

TOM, together with Texas Trails Network, encourages Texans to walk an extra 2000 steps and eat 100 fewer calories each day. Our goal is to build health-promoting communities that support and engage individual behaviour changes. You can start by wearing a pedometer and hitting a Texas Trail today!! (For your convenience, step counts are posted for each trail listed that is suitable for walking, hiking or jogging. Keep in mind that 2000 steps equals approximately 1 mile).

Texas Active Living Network
Creating Opportunities for Everyday Activity

The Department of State Health Services Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity Prevention program (NPAOP) has formed a statewide ad-hoc coalition called the Texas Active Living Network (TALN). TALN partners support the goal of helping Texas communities become Active Living communities that provide opportunities for regular, daily physical activity through the built environment and policy changes. Members have backgrounds in public health, transportation, bicycle / pedestrian outreach and advocacy, community and regional planning, and local government.
