Trail Rating
It is recognized that some guidance would be
helpful to consistently rate trails. The final process is
in development and will probably be more structured in future.
For now, the following paragraphs give general guidelines
that you can follow.
Where one person may find an easy concrete
loop not worth the getting to, others will find the same facility
ideal for them because it is nearby and frequented by friends.
One persons 4 may be another persons 2 star trail. Only the
trails that are really important (positively or negatively)
to you should ever be rated at the extremes of 1 or 5 stars.
You are encouraged to rate as often as you
visit the trail or you find a trail listed that you know about
but have not rated before. Each rating counts for now but
there may be restrictions on repeated rating in future.
For Available trails (those which are
available for use):
For now, consider 5 stars to be awesome in
every way... where 1 star would be appropriate after a visit
that was, all in all, disappointing. Few things in life are
black and white and for now, you can pick the shade of grey
with 2 or 4 stars. Three stars is appropriate for a trail
that provided the facilities and enabled the activities described
in a perfectly serviceable manner.
If you are logged on, your rating is recorded
as both a User and a Member; otherwise, it will be a User
rating.
For trails that are in proposal to construction
stage or renovation stage:
Your rating here should reflect the urgency
which you place on getting the trail available. If you check
every time you ride by to see if any dirt is flying, rate
it 5 stars. If you really think a trail at this place is a
dumb idea, rate it 1 star. If you think that this trail is
a good idea and you support moving the stage along, rate it
3 stars. Once again, you can figure out the shades of grey
with ratings of 2 or 4 stars.
For trails that are in retired stage:
Your rating here should reflect the sadness
you feel when you recall the great time you had there or curse
your luck at being born too late to enjoy this jewel of a
former trail. If you cry every time you think of it, rate
it 5 stars. If you really think the retirement was long overdue,
rate it 1 star. Use your imagination to fill in the blanks
with a rating from 2 to 4 stars.
For trails that are historical:
Your rating here should show your pride (or
disgust) that the historical pathway is honored as well as
the trails accessibility and pleasure visiting the remnants.
If you swell with pride each time you remember it, give it
5 stars. On the other hand, if you wish they would really
remove the historical designation from this trail, it rates
a 1.
